1938 would be Babe Ruth's final season in uniform, signed by the Dodgers that June to coach first base for the Bums. Brooklyn's signing of The Babe was likely more of an attempt to help draw crowds rather than a serious effort to kickstart the club's chances and they ultimately finished the season a subpar 11 games below .500. Ruth appears relaxed in this 6" x 7" photo which displays heavy wear and evidence of editorial masking applied throughout, presumably in preparation for publication. Prominently displayed on Ruth's left sleeve is the patch worn by all New York clubs in 1938 advertising the 1939 World's Fair held in New York City the following year. Verso of photo includes a multitude of stampings and notations with tape affixed at the top edge. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
