Interesting letter from Washington president Clark Griffith to Seattle Rainiers manager Bill Skiff, regarding a possible trade for Seattle outfielder Bill Matheson.  Griffith was inquiring regarding a possible purchase.  Griffith explains "I am not sure as yet as to whether my outfield will be properly set, for one of my regular outfielders is talking of not playing ball this year."

The outfielder to which he refers is likely Bruce Campbell, who batted .278 with 63 RBI in 1942.  At the conclusion of the season, Campbell enlisted in the Air Force and accepted a combat mission.  Griffith wound up settling on Philadelphia Athletics outfielder Bob Johnson, making a trade instead of purchasing Matheson outright.  Matheson wound up remaining in Seattle into 1946, and staying in the PCL until the end of his playing career.

The letter is in GOD condition with some creasing and wrinkling.  However, Griffith's signature is clean, encroaching on a tiny bit of age-related toning along the right edge of the paper.  Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
