1943 letter to Bill Skiff, then manager of the Seattle Rainiers, from Washington Senators president and Hall of Famer Clark Griffith. By 1943, Skiff was firmly entrenched in the PCL, several years into a six-season run with Seattle, when the Rainiers received veteran outfielder Dee Miles in a trade with Philadelphia for Jo-Jo White. Miles, unfortunately, refused to report to Seattle, which resulted in Skiff looking for a place to trade the disgruntled player. Though Miles wound up in Boston, this letter is a testament to his trying to work out a deal with Washington. The letter, signed by Griffith in black fountain pen, does exhibit some edge wear and a few minor creases (plus the two mailing folks), still appears very strong, the signature dark and legible.
