The launch of the Reggie Jackson documentary this spring on Amazon Prime serves as an excellent reminder, not only of Jackson's greatness but of his struggles - both real and perceived - on and off the field. What the documentary missed, however, was some of the incredible athletic achievements Jackson had in Oakland. One notable feat was this:

This blast off Dock Ellis in the 1971 All Star Game was estimated at 539 feet, a mammoth blast in any era, one of the longest home runs you will ever see. One of Jackson's many newsmaking performances under the brightest lights, where he seemed to be most comfortable. A wonderful card, issued the following season, the anecdote on the reverse mentions the blast, estimating its distance at more than 600 feet.
