American Tobacco came up with three border designs for the lengthy Gold Border set known today as T205, one for each major league and a third for the twelve minor leaguers included in the set. They saved the best design for the minor league players, whose cards also sport the only action shots to be found among the 208 subjects. Hall-of-Famer Jimmy Collins had last seen the majors in 1908 before returning to the minor leagues as a player manager for three seasons. The card offered here, a superb PSA 6, captures him at the end of his career and looks like nothing less than a regal sendoff. The gold borders remain lustrous and bold and the green background is just as stunning, giving the impression Collins is ready to pop out of the frame and hightail it down to First.
PSA has graded 169 examples of this card, which is on the low side for a Hall-of-Famer in the set. Only 7 cards grade higher in their pop report, two with qualifiers and none exceeding a straight 7. The Hassan back is one of a dozen brands advertised and falls somewhere in the middle of the pack when it comes to brand scarcity. This is simply a nice looking card in high grade with a somewhat uncommon back.
