The Turkey Red T3's, offering some the most beautiful cards ever made, were a premium offered via coupon redemption. A mix of 126 baseball and boxing subjects (the latter dubbed T9) were offered in cabinet size, showing off the lithographer's art with stunning, colorful images. The baseball subjects are surrounded by a thick gray border, or frame, which was key to keeping the central image clear of so many bumps and nicks.  The palette of pastels used in T3 was varied and complex, with some cards showcasing gorgeous sunsets, which are a desirable and hotly collected subset.

Mickey Doolan's entry in the set is one of the sunset cards and this PSA 4 example is a beauty.  Appearing in the more difficult second series, the imagery is a riot of color as Doolan bends to vacuum up an imaginary grounder up the middle.  The frame on this example is free of the dreaded pinhole that marks many of these cards and is in fine shape overall. The checklist back has also passed through the last 11 decades in excellent shape.  In a set where exactly four cards out of an overall population of 7,210 graded examples have earned a grade higher than 7, nice VG--EX cards are coveted and popular.
