Red Ryan played seven seasons in the American Negro Leagues, mostly with the Hilldale Club, along with several seasons in the Cuban Winter League. With Santa Clara in 1923-24, the right-hander went 4-0 with a 3.98 ERA in five games, having pitched five games with the Havana team in that same season as well. This card, from the difficult Billiken issue, is one of several tough Cuban cards featured in this auction. Graded PR 1 by PSA, the card does suffer from two pinholes at the top and bottom of the card, with some light corner creases, mild staining and some age-related discoloration. Despite all the technical flaws, however, the card presents extremely well, and due to the scarcity of the issue, is one of just two examples to have been graded by PSA.
