One of two 8" x 10" Charles Conlon photos of spitballer Russ Ford in this auction (the other a batting shot). Ford is pictured here in 1911, warming up in the sunlight at Hilltop Park as a capacity crowd and an announcer, complete with megaphone, look on. Unbeknownst to Ford at the time, one year later he'd finish the 1912 season with the unfortunate distinction of leading the league in losses (21), earned runs allowed (115), and home runs allowed (11) during one of the worst seasons in Yankees franchise history (50-102-1). Photo itself is clean overall and presents extremely well, with only a small piece of the upper left corner missing and a minor tear along the lower left edge. Verso exhibits minor toning and includes Charles Conlon's personal stamping along with his handwritten ID of Ford.Photo is fresh to the hobby and originates from the archives of Photo File, Inc. where it has been stored for several decades until this offering. Guaranteed Type 1.
