In classic Conlon style, the unmistakeable Red Sox infielder Steve Yerkes is captured here on the sidelines at Hilltop Park early in his career. Yerkes suffered severe burns to his face as a small child and was left scarred for life. Despite any challenges associated with such disfigurement, Yerkes' time in the majors spanned seven major league seasons from 1909-16, the bulk of which were spent in a Red Sox uniform. He is most famously known for scoring the winning run in the Game 8 of the 1912 World Series at Fenway Park, following Fred Snodgrass' muffed fly ball in the bottom of the 10th inning. This is a bold 8" x 10" photograph that offers an exceptional look at Yerkes in full uniform. The only blemishes appear to be some scuffing along the top and right edges but they are unobtrusive overall. Verso exhibits minor toning and features Charles Conlon's personal stamp along with his handwritten notations ID'ing Yerkes and an inscription referring to Yerkes' condition. Photo is fresh to the hobby and originates from the archives of Photo File, Inc. where it has been stored for several decades until this offering. Guaranteed Type 1.
