Attractive large-format woodcut image from the October 15, 1859 issue of Harper's Weekly.  There are two woodcut images on the double-page spread, the more desirable of which is one of the earliest records of baseball at Elysian Fields in Hoboken, New Jersey, a location that is still marked today with a monument.  The second woodcut image pictures a cricket match, also played in Hoboken.  These two images are more frequently found separated, as the baseball image is often framed on its own.  The two together measure 16.5" x 21.5" and exhibit light wear at the edges and corners, along with the telltale signs of folding.  An outstanding 19th Century piece with fantastic eye appeal, one of the earliest representations of baseball at the famed Elysian Fields.
