Attractive colorized woodcut from the pages of Harper's Weekly dated November 3 1866 and depicting members of the Brooklyn Atlantics and Philadelphia Athletics. The team members include Dickey Pearce (bottom row fourth from left) John Galvin (bottom row second from right) Fred Crane (seated front right) and most notably Lipman Pike (likely top row third from left). Pike was the first Jewish baseball players and is often credited with being the first professional baseball player. The image presents extremely well, though the frame prevents us from examining the edges and reverse. Framed to a finished size of 18" x 22", a beautiful and historically significant early woodcut image.
