The 1960 issue represented Fleer's first set of cards, picturing members of the newly-formed AFL. The set includes a host of players who never appeared on any other football cards, but for obvious reasons contains the most rookie cards of any set in the football hobby. Though the set presents well, many of the cards (approximately 28) feature the handwriting of a young collector who added the player's uniform number in ink on the card reverse. The result is a set with a lower technical grade, breaking down as 12% EX, 32% VG/EX, 30% VG, 3% G, and 23% F/P, mostly due to the writing. Key cards break down as #7 Gilman (HOF) G, 20 Baugh (HOF) VG, 58 Blanda (HOF) VG, 116 Stram (HOF) VG, 118 Mix (HOF) VG/EX, and 124 Kemp VG/EX.
The set is missing 15 cards for completion: #11, 23, 35, 47, 49, 53, 71, 73, 77, 82, 95, 107, 119, 121 and 131. 117 cards total.
