The 1959 Topps football set was a beautiful, 176-card set that featured full-color photos of the subjects, offset against a colorful background, with their name spelled out in blue and red underneath.  Presented here is a mixed-grade collection, missing just 17 cards for completion.  Overall, the collection grades approximately 13% EX/MT, 18% EX, 24% VG/EX, 27% VG, 2% G, 3% F, and 13% POOR, with the POOR cards graded that way mostly due to corner clips or the player's uniform number written on the reverse (which is the case with approximately ten cards).  It should be noted that as the series run progresses, the condition of the cards improves - the high numbers offer a greater percentage of the better-condition cards, with the low numbers generally lower grade.

The key cards included grade as follows:  #1 Unitas (VG/EX), 6 Schmidt (VG), 12 Dillon (G), 19 Nomellini (VG), 20 Gifford (VG), 22 Butler (VG/EX), 23 Starr (VG/EX), 40 Layne (VG),  44 Johnson (VG), 51 Huff (VG), 55 Berry (F - writing), 69 Stautner (VG), 82 Hornung (VG), 96 Jones (EX), 100 Moore (VG), 103 Karras (EX), 105 Crow (VG), 109 Marchetti (VG/EX), 114 Brown (VG), 130 Tittle (EX), 131 Lary (EX/MT), 132 Parker (EX), 140 Mitchell (VG/EX), 155 Taylor (VG/EX).  It should be noted that elsewhere in this auction are several high-grade examples from this set - those cards were all pulled from this grouping, an illustration of exactly how "mixed grade" this set truly is.  Missing cards #5, 10, 17, 33, 37, 40, 50, 58, 80, 81, 83, 86, 87, 101, 104, 147, and 149 for completion.  159 cards total.
