It was more than fifteen years ago that our hobby friend Joe Brennan, then a collector of T206 portrait cards, remarked about the Cy Young portrait that "it looks like it should be hanging over a fireplace mantelpiece." Since then we have echoed that sentiment, our opinion being that the T206 Cy Young portrait is one of the most elegant, regal-looking baseball cards ever manufactured. This example is the finest we have offered: graded NM-MT 8 by PSA, one of just 7 Sweet Caporal examples to attain that lofty plateau, and one of just 12 examples with any back to grade this high, with only two higher (one Piedmont 150 grading 8.5, and one Sweet Caporal to grade MINT 9. This example is sharp and clean, the rich, green background serving as an outstanding backdrop to the crisp portrait image of one of the game's great pitchers. Corners are consistent with the grade, as is centering, some of the less dominant colors printed ever so slightly off-register, keeping the card from a higher holder but mentioned here solely for accuracy. One of the finest known examples of a key card from the T206 issue.
