Dating to 1953-1954 extremely desirable and appeaing cardboard advertising sign promoting the "Big League Baseball Stars" television program as sponsored by the popular PF Flyer brand of sneakers. Initially developed by the BF Goodrich company in the 1930s as "Posture Foundation" insoles in canvas shoes "Posture Foundation" was eventually abbreviated to "PF" and by 1944 became "PF Flyers " among the first footwear brands to claim to improve athletic performance. The exceptional display features ten baseball stars of the day including Nellie Fox (HOF) Bobby Shantz Hank Sauer George Kell (HOF) Whitey Lockman Phil Rizzuto (HOF) Roy Campanella (HOF) Mickey Mantle (HOF) Robin Roberts (HOF) and Stan Musial (HOF) black and white photos superimposed over a colorful illustration of a ballpark the PF Flyer brand and television program advertised at the top and bottom. Framed to a finished size of 21" x 27 1/2" (the unframed piece measures 19" x 26") the sign exhibits some visible surface wear and soiling some foxing and surface abrasions on the left including visible scraping that impacts the faces of Lockman Shantz and to a lesser degree Fox. Additional wear is evident throughout the piece. We can detect no visible signs of restoration though the frame prevents us from examining the edges and reverse. One of the most desirable of all cardboard advertising pieces of the era consigned from the world class advertising display collection of Ted Patterson.
