Frank Shellenback pitched two seasons in the majors both with the White Sox in 1918 and 1919. A spitball pitcher Shellenback was relegated to the minors when the spitball was outlawed after the 1919 season because he was banned from throwing his signature pitch. Shellenback then moved to the Pacific Coast League where he won a record 295 games between 1920 and 1938 the most wins in PCL history. Bill James stated "Frank Shellenback may have been the best pitcher in the history of the minor leagues." 1958-62 Spalding Official NL baseball has been signed in black fountain pen by Shellenback at the top of the sweet spot. The ball does exhibit some toning and dirt. The signature has been preserved with a thick coating of shellac that adds a shine to the ball however it also enhances the presentation of the signature quite well.
