Absolutely tremendous supplement issued by a publoication called The Index in 1906 stylistically identical to a similar example of Fred Clarke that we offered in a past auction. The supplement is a tabloid-sized piece measuring approximately 13" x 16 1/4" and unlike the Clarke we offered previously (which is offered elsewhere in this auction with another example featuring Sam Leever) is completely intact. The text at the top of the photo reading "No. 11 in a series of members of Pittsburgh Baseball Team" confirms that these supplements were indeed issued in series. The fact that we have not seen any of these elsewhere in the hobby confirms their extreme rarity. As is the case with the Clarke and Leever supplements this example features a beautiful photo of the subject in full uniform with the photo credited to "D'Rosser" and copyright 1906 by The Index. The player's name and some brief biographical information appear at the bottom of the photo. As is the case with the others this example has been removed from the publication and pasted to what appears to be a scrapbook or ledger page resulting in waviness and wrinkling from the paste and backing paper. Additionally some age-related toning and tears are evident. Additional baseball news clippings have been pasted above the premium along the right side and the owner took the liberty of adding in Wagner's major league batting averages and some additional biographical information handwritten in pencil. Additional news clippings are pasted to the reverse of the page all baseball-oriented and likely all from the same publication. This is an absolutely tremendous piece one of the finest photos of Wagner we have seen clearly taken from a series of supplements issued by this publication. The three examples featured in this auction are the only ones we have seen from this series; while we have seen other supplements and premiums issued by this publication all have been team and stadium photos. The only full-uniform supplement photo we have seen picturing Wagner along a simply spectacular and never-before-seen item.
