I have one to sell!
Spectacular pair of supplements highlighted by Pittsburgh manager and Hall of Famer Fred Clarke. Taken in 1906 and distributed in a publication called The Index these are two in a series of supplements featuring photographs of individual Pittsburgh Pirates. Photography is credited to "D-Rosser " a prominent photographer in the Pittsburgh area around the turn of the century. The Fred Clarke supplement has been trimmed to approximately 7 15/16" x 11 7/8" and mounted to a sheet of tabloid-sized ledger paper ostensibly for protection in the early 1900s. While the aforementioned mounting results in the piece having a techical grade of POOR the overall presentation is of a much higher grade with significant display value. As is the case with the Honus Wagner supplement offered elsewhere in the auction the image of Clarke is spectacular. The Clarke is accompanied by a second photo from the series that of Sam Leever. The Leever supplement appears entirely intact removed from the publication and pasted to a sheet of scrapbook paper. Some pencil writing appears on the supplement and additional news clippings have been pasted alongside the supplement itself. The back of the scrapbook also contains some scraps from the local sports page. The three Index supplements in this auction are the only ones we have ever handled and our research has uncovered no others. The photographs are simply stunning the finest supplements we have ever encountered. Two rare pieces total including Hall of Famer Fred Clarke.
