I have one to sell!
Attractive bookplate belonging to baseball founding father Alexander Cartwright. The 2 1/4" by 3 5/8" paper crest includes Cartwright's name and crest. Bookplates such as this were pasted inside the front cover of books to indicate their owners. As such this bookplate exhibits glue remnants on the reverse. The number "117" is written in pencil at the top right corrner of the front. Also included are two pieces of correspondence. The first is a copy of a letter dated May 31 of 1916 to an Alfred Magoon of Hawaii with copied signatures from various members of the Cartwright family (including Alexander). The second letter is dated July 21 1923 and on the stationery of Alexander Cartwright III written and signed by his wife Susie. The letter was written two years after the younger Cartwright passed away. Three excellent documents from the family of one of the game's most important names.
