Until the disposition of the Leon Luckey type collection at auction last year we had never actually encountered a Monarch Typewriter postcard "in the wild." Fortunately one example from his collection wound up consigned to our last auction. As "type card geeks" it was a thrill to handle a new postcard type. It also prepared us for the day we flipped through a small postcard collection and encountered half the known subjects - the two featured in this auction plus a Rube Oldring - all on one binder page. This example is probably the issue's "key" card of the six known subjects. Hall of Famer Eddie Plank is pictured in a beautiful pitching pose the card graded VG 40 by SGC. The highest-graded of just two examples handled by either grading company the card is marred by typical age-related wear and some very moderate toning. A fantastic example of the key card from a rare postcard issue.
