Pitting the Detroit Tigers against the Pittsburgh Pirates the 1909 World Series contained the interesting subtext of the game's two greatest hitters - Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner - pitted against one another. Many photographs and even some film of that series exist; it remains one of the more exciting in history. Also featuring two Hall of Fame managers (Pittsburgh's Fred Clarke and Detroit's Hugh Jennings) Pittsburgh ultimately won the series in seven games. The Wagner vs. Cobb battle however fizzled with Cobb hitting just .231 while Wagner batted .333 with six stolen bases. Presented here is a beautiful three-panel panoramic postcard measuring approximately 14" in length featuring the twenty-five members of the World Champion Pirates standing shoulder-to-shoulder. Featuring Hall of Famers Honus Wagner Vic Willis and Fred Clarke the card was manufactured by the R.W. Johnston Studios of Pittsburgh. Well-worn not postally used the card is in poor condition due to the thirds of the card having become separated due to wear over the years. The separations have been repaired with clear tape on the reverse (though the tape has also separated) and a large crease extends north to south at the top-right edge near manager Clarke. Still an outstanding memento of one of baseball's most storied teams featuring one of the greatest players ever to take the field - Honus Wagner.
