I have one to sell!
It is not until viewing baseball cards that have not seen the light of day for decades before one realizes just how much normal handling and display impacts the aesthetic appeal of the cards. Such has been the case with many of the cards from the Texas Find; cards we see every day in comparison with the Texas cards simply look washed out; an appearance we once took to mean "vintage" is now one we consider "old." New cards we've learned look new when they're new - and if they're carefully preserved they stay that way. The 1966 Topps set is one of the finest in the Texas Find in terms of pure aesthetic appeal. The photography is sharp and crisp each card's gloss is fresh. Even in the instances where the cards suffer from centering issues or corner dings (both common in this particular set) they look brand new. Surely by "old-school" grading standards many of the EX and EX-MT cards in this set would have been labeled "mint." We selected ten of the set's key cards and submitted to PSA. The results were as follows: #50 Pete Rose (PSA NM 7) #36 Jim Hunter (PSA NM 7) #50 Mickey Mantle (PSA NM 7) #100 Sandy Koufax (PSA NM-MT 8) #128 Jim Palmer (PSA GOOD 2) #310 Frank Robinson (PSA NM 7) #320 Bob Gibson (PSA NM-MT 8) #390 Brooks Robinson (PSA NM-MT 8) #430 Don Drysdale (PSA EX-MT 6) #500 Hank Aaron (PSA EX-MT+ 6.5). The Palmer has an EX-MT appearance but has a remnant of black "photo corner" adhered to the reverse that we did not notice when submitting. In general the "photo corners" do not stick to the cards however we occasionally find that a small remnant of one remains lightly pressed against the card reverse. They often blow off but occasionally need to be rubbed. A condition breakdown of the set is approximately 10% NM-MT 27% NM 36% EX-MT 14% EX 8% VG/EX and 4% lesser. We have found that the reverses of these cards are subject to a mild fading likely the result of being held against the paper of their photo album for so long. Our submission to PSA revealed that this fade is inconsequential to the grade. Remaining keys are described as #29 Niekro (EX/MT) #70 Yastrzemski (NM) #110 Banks (EX) #132 Cepeda (EX/MT) #160 Ford (EX/MT) #200 Mathews (EX/MT) #210 Mazeroski (NM) #255 Stargell (EX) #300 Clemente (EX/MT) #365 Maris (NM) #410 Kaline (EX/MT) and #420 Marichal (NM-MT). An exceptional set one of the finest in the Texas Find. 598 cards total.
