This beautiful portrait of the third baseman on a dark green background has gorgeous, bold colors and is one of the more realistic examples in the set of skin tone coloring. The centering is just a shade west on the canvas, but the borders are very consistent. Left and right edges are soft and some chipping is present, but consistent with the grade. Some rounding in the corners and a small crease along the left edge at the height of the NY logo on Latham's chest. The ultra rare brown Lenox back shows some very light staining, but is overall very clean and presents nicely. This is an outstanding example of the most popular prewar card issue. PSA has only ever graded 2 total examples of this version of the Latham, with none receiving a higher grade than the GOOD 2 offered here.

The bulk of Latham's career took place between 1883 and 1896, split between the American Association, the Players League, and the National League. He stole 48 or more bases in 10 consecutive seasons, including a career high 129 in 1887, racking up 742 total steals by the end of his career. Latham came back for one season in 1899, and then one more season a decade later as a 49-year-old in 1909, when he stole one final base, giving him one more steal than Eddie Collins and sole possession of 7th place on the all-time stolen bases list.
