I have one to sell!
One of several studios utilized by Goodwin & Co to take photos to be used on the N172 and N173 Old Judge cards the Fearnaught Photography studio of Indianapolis produced this cabinet likely used as a proof and which may have been distributed directly to the public. A number of Fearnaught cabinets featuring different poses of Deacon White found their way into the hobby through his estate; this particular example originated with those sold at auction back in 2006 and have remained with our consignor ever since. Though the cabinet has been graded FAIR 20 by SGC it is simply a spectacular example with incredible sharpness and image contrast and an exceptionally clean mount. Some moderate paper loss on the reverse is largely responsible for the grade; the paper loss does not obscure the Fearnaught advertisement on the reverse but clearly indicates that the cabinet was at some point mounted in an album. As is the case with many 19th Century issues the album helped preserve the quality of the image and mount despite the damaged reverse; the result is an outstanding cabinet photo. The image on this card was used to create post #496-4 one of the more scarce subjects in the issue and certainly among the most scarce Hall of Famers. An outstanding quality image of a recently inducted Hall of Famer likely produced as a proof and given directly to Deacon White as our research indicates that it originated from his estate.
