Incorrectly labeled (and called by collectors) "Scrapps Tobacco " the Scrapps Die Cut issue from 1888 features 18 players from the St. Louis Browns and Detroit Wolverines. Due to the nature of the cards (die-cut paper images) condition issues are aplenty with this set as each card"s many curves and edges are susceptible to wear folding and even breaking. Additionally the cards were often stored in scrapbooks resulting in many surviving copies suffering from damaged backs. This card of Browns outfielder James "Tip" O"Neill is an outstanding example of these colorful die-cut cards. Graded VG/EX by SGC this card contains minimal back wear and just minor edge wear/discoloration that results in the assigned grade. O"Neill let the league in batting in 1887 with a staggering .435 average and eventually became the namesake of the "Tip O"Neill Award " awarded to the top Canadian baseball player of each year. O"Neill born in Montreal was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.Population Data:SGC Population: 23 total graded 1 at this level 4 higherPSA Population: 3 total graded none at this level 1 higher
