In the earliest days of the game before television and in many cases before baseball cards woodcut player images from Harper's Leslie's and the like represented the first opportunity for baseball fans to see graphical representations of professional ballplayers. Often these woodcuts were the only time a fan would see and identify what some of the game's most famous players even looked like. Prior to the invention of printing methods that allowed for photography wood engravings were the only way to produce images for magazines and books. Over the years more than 40 baseball woodcuts appeared in the pages of Harper's featuring some of the 19th Century's most famous players and teams. The beautiful artwork is an outstanding way to collect 19th Century memorabilia in a relatively affordable way while building a collection of spectacular display-worthy pieces. Presented is a wonderful collection of 16 professionally matted and framed woodcuts. A significant and substantial collection each of the pieces displays wonderfully a magnificent collection of 19th Century baseball art. Included in the collection are the following: 1) Buck Ewing Harper's Weekly cover from November 9 1889 probably the most famous of all the Harper's woodcuts framed to a finished size of 18" x 23". 2) Champion Base-Ball Players from May 16 1885 - composite image of 12 players including Hall of Famers Charles Radbourn Buck Ewing King Kelly Jim O'Rourke and John Montgomery Ward. Framed to a finished size of 16" x 21". 3) Base-Ball In England - The Match On Lord's Cricket Grounds from September 12 1874 framed to a finished size of 20.5" x 16.5". 4) International Base-Ball - The Boston Champions: from June 27 1874 featuring Jim O'Rourke Al Spaulding George Wright and Harry Wright. Framed to a finished size of 16.5" x 20.5". 5) Champion Nine of the Atlantic Base-Ball Club of Brooklyn 1865. From November 25 1865 including Dickey Pearce. Framed to 15.5" x 17.5". 6) International Base-Ball - The Philadelphia Athletics - from July 25 1874 including Cap Anson. Framed to a finished size of 17.5" x 22". 7) The Picked Nine of the "Red Stocking" Base-Ball Club - from July 3 1869 one of the more famous baseball woodcuts despite the players not being identified framed to 13.5" x 11.75". 8) The Metropolitan Base-Ball Nine - gorgeous woodcut from August 5 1882 13.25" x 11". 9) The New Grounds
