For Topps the mid-1960s was a particularly creative time as the company experimented with a number of test issues special inserts and unique types of cards. Among them was the interesting "Topps Embossed" series consisting of 72 cards randomly inserted in regular 1965 Topps baseball packs. Each card featured a player bust embossed in gold foil on the card American League players framed in a blue background and National Leaguers framed in red. The issue is extraordinarily difficult to find in high grade as the foil busts are often subject to wear and scraping. For many reasons this particular insert issue has never taken off with collectors though the set is certainly interesting. Presented is a 12-card uncut panel featuring the issue's key card that of Mickey Mantle. Also featured on the sheet are Bob Allison Mickey Lolich Dean Chance Tony Kubek Ken Boyer Bill Mazeroski (HOF) Rocky Colavito Zoilo Versalles Walt Bond Lee Maye and Dick Radatz. In approximately VG condition the sheet does exhibit some mild creasing in places but the primary wear is similar to the wear experienced with the single cards: scraping to the embossed foil player images. Despite this this is a unique seldom-seen collectible.
