Coached by Red Blaik the 1946 Army Cadets were ranked #2 in the country and were just two weeks removed from a 0-0 tie against #1 ranked Notre Dame that is considered one of college football's "Games Of The Century." Featuring Heismann winner Glenn Davis the Cadets went into the final game of the season as 21-point favorites against the Navy Midshipmen. The first half of the game surprised nobody with Army entering halftime ahead by a 21-6 margin. The second half however was a tremendous surprise as the overconfident Cadets were surprised in the second half as the Midshipmen stormed back with 18 unanswered points. With fans leaving the stands and surrounding the field a 20-yard run by Lynn Chewning gave the Midshipment the ball at the Army 3 yard line with less than a minute and a half to go and no time outs. Twice Chewning was stopped with no gain before Midshipment coach Tom Hamilton deliberately made an illegal substitution which stopped the clock with less than 30 seconds to go. With the ball moved back to the 8 yard line Navy quarterback Bill Hawkins pitched to halfback Pete Williams who advanced to the 4 but then reached for the sideline to stop the clock. The sideline which had been smothered by the crowd was difficult to see and the referee did not signal to stop the clock. The Midshipmen did all they could to get the clock stopped so they could run another play but time ran out Army defeating Navy by the score of 21-18. This game was the final collegiate game of Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard the Heismann-winning "Touchdown Twins." This colorful Municipal Stadium stub from that infamous game grades VG due to some corner and edge wear along with some very mild creasing that does not detract from the stub's eye appeal. A beautiful muilti-color ticket complete with silver and gold accents an outstanding memento from one of the great Army/Navy games of all time.
