Utility man Walter Smaill had a reputation for taking punishment on the ice. Crowned the "Stitch Champion of Hockey" by a Vancouver paper of the day for how battered and stitched his face eventually became, he was a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Montreal Wanderers, securing cups during consecutive seasons in 1908-09. Smail is also credited as the first player to ever be recruited for the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA), competitor to the NHA/NHL. This 1910 Sweet Caporal Hockey Postcard of Smaill, #27 in the set and his rookie card, exhibits rounding at the corners and otherwise presents beautifully with a small spec of discoloration at lower-left of obverse and an area of discoloration at lower-right of reverse. Graded GOOD 2 by PSA it remains one of only 12 graded examples across both PSA and SGC's population reports combined.
