Sam Wise shows another player pose from the "0" series, as this card can be called both #0118, hand-numbered at upper-right by N172 artists, or #506-2, as catalogued by the Goodwin & Co. photographic reference book. Free-swinging Sam forged a decent major league career during this early era, playing regularly at several positions throughout the 1880s. Based on stories from his time, 1960s Dick Stuart could be a good 20th century comp for Sam's (good) hitting and (wild) fielding abilities.

The PSA VG 3 grade shows an artful, almost statuesque image with good depth and tone. Centering and borders show well, with modest corner rounding and a bump at lower left explaining the technical score. The PSA population report shows four graded examples, with two higher (one with qualifiers).

This card appears as #506-2's reference image on page 437 of the Old Judge book by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson. Love of the Game is proud to offer several cards seen in their outstanding work of research and presentation as part of our 100+ N172 listings.
