This standout N172 SGC EX-NM 6 features Edward Joseph Herr (1865-1936) in a detailed full-length pose with strong image depth, slightly rounded corners, and clean borders. Surface and toning are minimal, offering one of the finest known copies of this pose. It's tough to imagine a better combination of set and condition, considering how vulnerable Old Judge was to damage from typical handling and storage.

The dark Milwaukee uniform shown belongs to the original Brewers (or Creams), who competed in the Western Association of eight teams that stretched west from the Mississippi to Colorado. The most intriguing matchups of that era must've been between Milwaukee's "Brewers" and the Des Moines "Prohibitionists," given what each name implies!

Of the 100+ N172 listings offered in this Love of the Game auction, Herr rates one of its highest. The current SGC population report shows a mix of Ed Herr poses and grades, with this EX-NM among its best overall. It will be tough to find a better example in any Old Judge collection.

(Note that the Goodwin & Co. reference for Old Judge cards declared Herr's life as 1862-1943, and we rely on Baseball Reference's 1865-1936 dates.)
