Catcher and infielder Jim Keenan of Cincinnati appears here in his softly framed crouch, offering reasonable contrast and legible captioning for an N172. Most catchers of his era took a flexed, half-crouch, which says something about how their modern equivalents are able to drop much closer to the ground, thanks to conditioning and leg strength.
The card's SGC GOOD+ 2.5 grade reflects moderate corner rounding and edge bumps, with an overall display that's pleasing for a low-grade Old Judge image. Its central photo remains the strongest feature, placing it a cut above many others in this technical range. Combined population reports, which PSA grades as "Hands on Knee," show about a dozen examples known, making this a tough but possible find.
This card appears as #253-1's reference image on page 284 of the Old Judge photography book by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson. Love of the Game is proud to offer many cards seen in their outstanding work of research and presentation as part of our 100+ N172 listings in this auction.
