Polite 1957 letter from Walter O'Malley to George Shuba. By 1957, Shuba had been sent back to Montreal and then to the AA Memphis Chickasaws of the Southern Association. By July he had gone home to Youngstown but clearly wrote a note to O'Malley, perhaps discussing his hopes for reviving his career. O'Malley responded, writing:

Dear George:

We were all pleased to receive your thoughtful Christmas card and your personal note. Best wishes to you, George. We will keep watching your career with high hopes that everything will work out the way you would like it to.

Though Shuba's baseball career had ended and never revived, he returned to Youngstown, where he met Kathryn Forde, who he married in 1958. He remained in Youngstown, participating in Dodgers reunions and events for many years before he passed in 2014.
