Terrific collection of 49 photos (46 of which appear to be originals) spanning the career of former Brooklyn Dodgers outfielder and pinch-hitter, George "Shotgun" Shuba. Shuba, who appeared for the Dodgers across seven major league seasons from 1948-55, was considered one of sportswriter Roger Kahn's "Boys of Summer" - key guys he felt were at the heart of both the Brooklyn Dodgers' success throughout the 40's and 50's and their deep connection to the borough itself. Nicknamed "Shotgun" for his unique ability to blast line drives to all fields, Shuba's greatest moment as a big leaguer occurred in Game 1 of the 1953 World Series when he became the first National Leaguer to launch a pinch-hit home run in a World Series game. This immersive grouping of photography originates directly from Shuba's personal collection, with all but two of the included photos depicting Shuba alone or with teammates. Highlights include: 1) 1948 posed doubleweight photo of Shuba at Wrigley Field with Burke & Brace credit stamping on verso (8" x 10" with two duplicates among the group) 2) 1948 photo of Shuba posed in his satin uniform worn by the Dodgers for home night games from 1944-48 (8" x 10", visible handling wear throughout) 3) 1949 photo of Shuba demonstrating the homemade training aid he claimed to utilize for 600 swings daily (7" x 9") 4) Shuba prior to blasting pinch-hit home run on May 25, 1950 against the Chicago Cubs (7" x 9", visible creasing throughout) 5) Shuba crossing home plate following home run on July 20, 1950, "George Shuba Day" at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh (8" x 10") 6) Doubleweight June 20, 1952 photo of teammates awaiting Shuba at home plate after launching a walk-off, pinch-hit home run to beat Pittsburgh 5-4 at Ebbets Field. Jackie Robinson and his iconic #42 clearly visible. Barney Stein attribution handwritten on verso (8" x 10") 7) Shuba attempting to beat play at home during Game 5 of the 1952 World Series against the Yankees. Yogi Berra behind the plate with Barney Stein credit stamping on verso (8" x 10") 8) Undated photo of Shuba posed with official Brooklyn Dodgers photographer Barney Stein (8" x 10"). 52 photos total featuring one of baseball history's iconic Boys of Summer.
