A tough N172 "Kansas City" variation for Hall of Famer "Sliding Billy" Hamilton, who started his career with two seasons stealing bases for K.C.'s American Association team before moving on to major league paychecks in Philadelphia and Boston. The sheer quantity of "black ink" (league-leading performances) on his career record is nothing short of astounding for a player of any era. One could believe they changed aspects of batting, base-stealing, and walks just to account for his game-breaking performance in all of them.

While Billy passed away well before his Hall of Fame induction via the Veterans Committee in 1961, his selection is a testament to how baseball history intermingles with its statistical record, as there was no denying his on-field achievements once one went looking for its top run scorers and base stealers of all time. His astute business sense allowed him to retire to a quieter family life after baseball, where Billy appears to have let his past achievements go in favor of a focus on community life.

The definitive guide on Old Judge cards categorized this pose as #210-5, and its SGC FAIR 1.5 reflects wavy borders and mounting residue on the reverse, likely from its past inside an album. The image quality and clarity rate much higher and should satisfy any collectors pursuing Hall of Fame players, tougher team variations, or cards with above-average presentation. The SGC population report doesn't appear to split out N172 poses, but we can infer scarcity from PSA's report, which shows two Kansas City cards and ten examples overall, which includes his Philadelphia team cards.
