In this auction, Love of the Game is proud to offer several graded singles from the scarce N172 Old Judge subset dubbed "1886 Brown's Champions" thanks to that on-card text celebrating their American Association title under player/manager Charles Comiskey. Dave "Scissors" Foutz served as their mound ace and would be well-known to any fan of that era, thanks to his terrific all-around play. His particular skillset faded as the 20th century went on, so modern fans must combine the images of "workhorse pitcher" and "line-drive speedster" to appreciate what Foutz brought to the field in 1886.
SGC graded this card VG 3 due to its toned borders at lower left, touched corners, and fleck along two edges. It remains in standout condition for something produced in the 1880s, thanks to its quality image, clear surfaces, and lack of creasing. Many who pursue Old Judge cards value visual presentation and readability above other technical facets, as their photos prove vulnerable to sun exposure and similar types of fading. The SGC N172 population report shows eight total graded cards of "Brown's Champions 1886" Foutz, with just one higher!
