Another hidden gem from our Billiken singles, with a well-preserved look at the Alamandares uniform worn by so many winter league players across decades. The SGC EX 5 grade shows a wonderful card with clarity unusual for these cards. Edges and the front look sharp a century later, so perhaps a local fan took pains to protect it inside their album. Centering nudged to the southeast and touched corners seem to be its only technical issues!
1923-24 Billikens were produced for that winter league baseball season as cigar premiums during a short, active period for Cuban card issues. They feature real player photos, leaving them somewhat more vulnerable to fading and handling damage than more conventional cardboard sets. They can retain beautiful detail and document a number of players from that era who don't appear on many cards or photos. Love of the Game is pleased to offer several cards from this set as part of our larger offering of Cuban issues.
