Important Cuban issue for one of our Hall of Fame's most significant inductees, as Ray Brown earned induction on the strength of his dominant Negro League pitching career, posting numbers similar (or better) than the better-known Satchel Paige. (While Satchel continued long enough to appear on integrated teams, Brown moved on to manage minor league teams in Canada.) Brown also spent time in winter league ball and appears in this fragile Caramelo Deportivo issue, whose thin stock shows every kind of handling damage. This SGC PR 1 reflects multiple creases and marks on the reverse, perhaps from album glue. It remains the only known card produced during Brown's own career, so every example is appealing to Hall of Fame collectors and Negro League fans!
