Gorgeous card featuring Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley from the 1981 Topps issue. Possibly best known for giving up the dramatic Kirk Gibson home run, with little consideration to the fact that what made the home run so dramatic was the improbability of an injured player hitting a home run off a pitcher as dominant as Eck. Eckersley broke in with the Cleveland Indians as a starting pitcher, a role he played until 1986, winning 20 for the 1978 Boston Red Sox. At 31 years old, he converted to a closer, where he became dominant, saving 40 or more three times and 51 in 1992.
