Phenomenal news service photo captured at Ebbets Field in June of 1942 as the classic ballpark's lighting system appears to be just warming up. Dated to exactly four years after the first-ever night game at Ebbets Field, this dramatic shot was achieved as daytime turned to night in Brooklyn for what is purported to be the first "twilight" game on record in New York City. Large paper caption still affixed to verso declares:

"The Brooklyn Dodgers inaugurated a modified form of night baseball at Ebbets Field, June 15, and although the Chicago Cubs walked off with a 6-0 victory, the experiment was considered a mild success. The game, which started in the daylight at 7 p.m. and finished under the arc-lights two hours later, drew a crowd of 15,157 fans. Here, twilight settles ver the field and the last rays of the sun shine through the stands."

7" x 9" photo displays no obvious signs of wear, with a smooth emulsion surface and clean verso where multiple credit stampings from Acme have been applied. Authenticated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA and their full LOA is included.
