Original Type I photo of the Babe Ruth taking hacks prior to a game in the early 1930's. Our research has revealed the image was captured at Shibe Park in Philadelphia on September 21, 1932; Ruth's first game back following a bout of appendicitis he was diagnosed with exactly two weeks prior. Shortly after this image was taken the Bambino's Yankees would finish 107-47-2 on season, sweeping the Chicago Cubs over four games in the 1932 World Series, the last of Ruth's storied career. Sepia toned 7" x 9" news service photo exhibits some visible but unobtrusive light creasing and wear at the bottom corners but otherwise presents beautifully. Visible horizontal lines originate at the right edge by Ruth's torso and appear to be embedded in the image itself. We have seen the identical lines present within another Type I example of this photo, leading us to believe this was likely caused by abrasion to the original negative itself. Verso exhibits large areas of visible soiling within the top half with credit stamping from Wide World Photos applied at the center. From LOTG's recent Durham Find of Historic Baseball Photography. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
