Measuring 19" in diameter, large porcelain-over-metal flange-style advertising sign for Spalding Athletic Goods, dating to the 1920s. Similar to the signs that were mounted atop Spalding's rare and desirable wooden retail bat racks, the flange sign was intended to be bolted directly to a wall so the sign would extend at a 90-degree angle. Extremely weathered and worn, this piece was clearly mounted outside for an extended period, with one bullet hole and significant bending, abrasions, and oxidation visible throughout. The flange remains intact and strong.
