Well-worn display measuring 13 1/2" x 10 1/4" and affixed to 1/8" heavy board. Titled "World Series Heroes Wearing Billy Taub Clothes," referring to New York clothier Billy Taub, a former musician who operated a clothing store on Broadway and sold his fashions to other stores nationwide as "The Clothing of Champions." The piece features images of Taub surrounded by prominent athletes and dignitaries, including Dick Bartell, James Braddock, Frankie Crosetti, Dizzy Dean, Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio (pictured twice), Tony Lazzeri, Jake Powell, Babe Ruth, George Selkirk, and Bill Terry. Flanking the photos are images of custom clothing tags for clothing specially tailored for Bartell, Braddock, DiMaggio, Gus Mancuso, Seklirk, and Terry. The piece is heavily worn at the corners and edges, likely due to years of display. The word "clothes" in the title appears to have been crossed out with some type of ink, and some additional surface abrasions can be seen here and there.
A photo stamp appears on the reverse, which, due to a combination of fading and back damage, is not entirely legible. However, the stamp does confirm that this is a single composite piece that was produced by a company, likely for display at retail stores carrying Taub's clothing line. Taub's positioning as "clothier to the stars" was part of his appeal; all of his marketing materials seem to have carried an endorsement from some athlete or other. Despite the condition, a remarkabledisplay, featuring world class athletes in quality clothing, an early example of celebrity endorsements being used to sell product.
