This sharp, distinctive W517 card of Babe Ruth features an unusual fielding photo of the legendary slugger, as most 1920s and 1930s cards focused on his prodigious feats at the plate. The publisher of this set printed cards in sheets for cutting into singles, with a bit of remaining dotted guideline visible along its top edge. Thin W517 paper stock often fell victim to extra folds and dings, making this presentable Ruth well above average in its clarity and condition. Wear appears limited to horizontal creases, rounded corners, and some handling marks on the back. The Bambino proves a key card in any set of this era and this will be more accessible than most!

Babe Ruth captured his 12th and final AL home run crown in 1931, becoming the first to slug over 600 career long balls and surpassing any other player for decades to follow. Ruth's impact extended far beyond individual statistics, as he led the Yankees to four World Series championships and would remain baseball's biggest global draw well into the 1930s. Barnstorming tours saw him send shot after shot into cheering crowds around the world and made him one of the 20th century's most photographed individuals. This candid warmup pose evokes his start as an ace pitcher, twice winning more than 20 games for Boston. While the Yankees rarely let him pitch, that strong left arm no doubt helped him lead American League right fielders in range factor three times.
