Original news service photo depicting first baseman, Charlie Hickman, with the 1907 Chicago White Sox. Hickman's likeness has been captured at Hilltop Park by New York-based freelance photographer, Robert W. Tebbs whose surviving baseball-related images are highly coveted by advanced collectors of original Deadball Era photography. Tebbs remained active as an on-field baseball photographer from 1906-08, shooting at a time prior to when the major news photo services began to document all players across both leagues in earnest. Scant few Tebbs originals exist today and rarely, if ever, surface within the hobby. Photo measures approx. 4.5" x 5.25" with crop lines applied in pencil along the bottom and right-hand edges. Some degree of smudging is present within top third of this example and while it is worth noting remains unobtrusive. Tebbs' unique credit stamping has been applied to verso which also displays a handwritten identifier of Hickman above. Guaranteed to return as a Type I photo if submitted to PSA for authentication.
