Please note the error in our printed catalog identifying this as an 1887 piece. It is dated 1897. Measuring approximately 7" x 6", cardboard piece includes a smaller, die-cut "Commencement Souvenir" which includes an attractive image depicting game play, set inside a larger graphic of a football. Several "Brownie" figures are seen propping up the football and unstitching the laces at the top. Published by engraver E.A. Wright of Philadelphia, the piece includes a round, month-by-month calendar for 1897 that appears within the die-cut window of the outer image. The front and back pieces are bound together with string, which implies that different outer pieces could have been employed to change the scene based on the season. VG condition with some paper loss at the top edge, fraying to the original string, and a heavy crease at the upper right corner of the backing component.
