Fantastic hardbound scrapbook album with ornate sports-oriented cover adorned with vivid gold leaf trim and accents. Measuring approximately 13 1/2" x 11" this extravagant embossed album contains 44 pages plus the cover and is adorned inside with several full-color lithographs on interior leaves depicting a variety of sports scenes. Despite being titled "The Illustrated Sporting Scrap Album " the pages do not contain any sports-related clippings filled instead with a combination of anecdotes from newspapers woodcut illustrations and die cuts unrelated to sports. The pages appear in good condition though some have been torn from the spine they are all intact and present. The cover appears sturdy and colorful and the printed lithographs on the interior pages are stunning. This is an outstanding example of a popular 19th Century activity (scrapbooking) and a piece of beautiful sports-related memorabilia.
