I have one to sell!
Three years into his retirement and unsuccessful search for a managerial job in baseball Babe Ruth accepted a position as first base coach of the Brooklyn Dodgers. While the position was largely a ceremonial one (he wasn't even tasked with relaying signs to hitters) Ruth held out hope that he would be offered a managerial job in baseball. He remained with the Dodgers in 1938 his last season in uniform hoping that he would be tapped as successor to manager Burleigh Grimes. When Grimes was replaced by Leo Durocher Ruth retired ending his tenure with the Dodgers. Presented is a Dodgers scorecard from that season from a game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Listed as coach in the scorecard Ruth's name despite being printed in the same size and typeface as the others somehow looms large over the rest the most famous name on the page even today. In apparent VG/EX condition the scorecard is unmarked creasing down the middle of the piece consistent with being rolled and stuck in a back pocket during the game. The cover has a minor tear at the spine certainly nothing of consequence.
