At just 20 years old Mickey Mantle was well on his way to superstardom, ready to capture his second World Series title in as many seasons when this image was captured on September 29, 1952. A wonderful shot of "The Mick" flanked by fellow New York Yankees starting outfielders Gene Woodling and Hank Bauer, with the distinctive 50th Anniversary of the New York Yankees patch proudly displayed on their left sleeves. In the 1952 World Series one week later Mantle would blast the first of his 18 World Series home runs – a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth in Game 6 at Ebbets field to put the Yankees up 3-1 and help force a Game 7. Mantle would then add another solo homer in the top of the 6th in Game 7 to give the Yankees a lead they would not relinquish, securing a 15th World Series title for the Bombers. This 7" x 9" original Type I photo is fresh to the hobby and has survived in excellent overall condition with a touch of wear to the corners and a few visible creases scattered around the perimeter. Verso includes full paper caption dated to 9/29/1952, setting the stage for the impending 1952 World Series. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
