Well known for his superhuman ability to pitch both ends of a double header (often winning both games), Hall of Famer "Iron Man" Joe McGinnity still holds the National League record for both innings pitched in a single season (434), and games started (48), both achieved during the 1903 season. Along with Christy Mathewson, McGinnity was a stalwart of manager John McGraw's pennant winning teams of 1904 and 1905, compiling a staggering 114 victories between the 1903-06 campaigns. Though his major league career ended in 1908, Joe McGinnity continued to compete in minor league baseball until 1925 after owning and acting as player/manager for several teams across the United States and Canada. By 1926 he joined the coaching staff of former Baltimore Orioles teammate (1901-02), Wilbert Robinson who by that time had helmed the Brooklyn Robins for more than a decade. Presumably shot during the 1926 season, the presented original Type I photo depicts "Iron Man" Joe McGinnity in his Brooklyn Robins team issued sweater at the age of 55 – sadly just four years prior to his death. Borderless on two sides, this fresh to the hobby example measures 6" x 8" and remains in fantastic overall condition, with handwritten pencil notations and Wide World credit stamping on verso. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
